Linux is not just a single operating system .it exists in sevral dozen version called distribution. Unlike windows ,no one company has guided the development of linux.
Linux comes in many different appearances.the basic system is the same, but the look, feel and the subsystems around it are different.
Each version is produced by a different organization with its own ethos(philosophy) and aims.
The result is a unique version og linux (Known as a distro in linux speak) which is aimed at a slightly different set of users.
